Hitachi Sues LGE

Hitachi Limited, through its Plasma Patent Licensing subsidiary (HPPL), is suing LG Electronics and its US unit, saying the South Korean company infringed its plasma display-related patents.

Hitachi filed the suit in the US District court for Eastern Texas, seeking monetary compensation for damages and a permanent injunction prohibiting LG's plasma display panel (PDP) product sales in the US.

The complaint alleges that LGE's plasma display panel products infringe seven patents owned by HPPL.

The companies have been talking about an appropriate license agreement and fee for LGE's PDP technology and products, but according to Hitachi these discussions have "reached an impasse" because "the parties' evaluations of the patents vastly differ."

LG denied the allegation and said it would "react actively" without elaborating.
