Syndicate Bank deploys Fortinet’s UTM

Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions provider, Fortinet announced that Syndicate Bank, has deployed four FortiGateT-5020 ATCA-compliant enterprise-class multi-threat security systems, four FortiGateT-5001 blades and one FortiManagerT-400, to protect its core banking systems nd its nationwide network of bank branches and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

Syndicate Bank is the first public sector bank in India to implement UTM as the principal security technology for its core network and banking systems.

Commenting on the selection and deployment of Fortinet solutions, Atul Kumar, Assistant GM, department of IT, Syndicate Bank, said, "Syndicate Bank previously had Cisco firewalls but they did not meet our present requirements to provide protection against the latest viruses, Trojans and other malware, and to keep up with the growing number of banking transactions,"

As per the press release, the bank's IT team had evaluated solutions from Check Point and Cisco before deciding on Fortinet's FortiGate-5000 Series chassis-based security systems and FortiManager management and monitoring solution.

The Fortinet solution was deployed by systems integrator Wipro Infotech at Syndicate Bank's data center in Mumbai and disaster recovery site in Bangalore, India.
